An Open Letter from Angel

Hi! I'd like to introduce myself and tell you some about myself and my practice. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I went to undergraduate and graduate school here and then worked at the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic. Throughout all my work and training, I’ve specialized in working with kids and families.

Along the way, I also became a parent and got to experience first-hand how incredibly intense, difficult, revealing, rewarding, and exhausting parenting can be. I realized that I wanted my work as a therapist to include finding ways to better support parents, and facilitate the connections between parents and children.

Having done my own therapy, I can appreciate how helpful and also how hard it can be. I feel grateful and honored to be a part of this process with others. As a therapist, I use a collaborative approach, joining with my clients in focusing on what's working, and increasing awareness about what's not working, as well as introducing tools to help with managing discomfort.

Another process that’s been very helpful to me personally, as well as in my work with clients, is mindfulness. To me, this means practicing being aware of the mind, body and breath in the present moment, as best as we can, without judgment. Mindfulness supports the process of allowing all the parts of our Self to have a voice, catching judgments, experiencing our feelings, and understanding our limits. This simple (and yet challenging!) process can be so helpful in alleviating anxiety and depression, as well as processing past trauma and dealing with life stress.

A more recent development I’m seeing, is how clients are being impacted by what’s happening in the public and political world. In the past, politics haven't entered the therapy room as much, but it’s more frequent now that clients of all political perspectives may need support with their anxieties, or hopes, about the changes happening and what the future holds. Sometimes, people are feeling as though their views are no longer acceptable in the public arena or with friends and family. This can cause stress and strained relationships, and I want to invite all thoughts, opinions, feelings and struggles into the therapy room!

Thanks for your interest and best of luck on your journey!

With Love,

Angel
